Joan Lawrence Porter
Joan Lawrence Porter, 82, former teacher and mother of five children, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2013, after a long illness, surrounded by her family.
Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Born Dec. 4, 1930, at her grandmother’s home in Vinemont, Ala. Raised in Vinemont, she graduated from Cullman High School (1948), Sacred Heart Junior College (1951) and Howard College (now Samford University) in 1955. She taught school at Cold Springs High School and Cullman Vocational School among other schools in Alabama and Georgia. She was a past member of Vinemont Baptist Church and was a member of First Baptist Church of Cullman since 1975, where she belonged to the Lottie Moon Sunday School class. She loved to read, garden and was proud to live in Cullman, Ala.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ezra C. and Erin Wilhite Lawrence; a brother, Kenneth Lawrence; and a sister, June Lawrence Strickland.
Survivors include her sister, Angela (Jerome) Moore of Cullman; her Aunt Wynelle Ward of Birmingham; a son, Gregory (Tammy) of San Antonio, Texas; a son, Perry (Melissa) of Houston, Texas; two daughters, Jan Porter of Tuscaloosa and Gina (Paul) Alcos of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; a son, Heath (Cristi) of Lewisburg, W.Va.; grandsons, Thomas Porter, Zach Alcos, Preston Porter and Pierce Porter; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at Moss-Service Funeral Home, the Rev. John Herndon, formerly of Vinemont Baptist Church, will preside.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services; interment will be in Cullman Public Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff of Hanceville Nursing Home and the caregivers of SouthernCare Hospice for their kindness and support.

Carlton Eugene Stafford
Carlton Eugene Stafford, 82, of Cullman passed away Saturday, July 26, 2014, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born April 14, 1932, James and Mary Katherine Brown Stafford. Mr. Stafford was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was the original owner of Carlton’s restaurant.

Susan Werner died Monday, July 21, 2014, as a result of an apparent fall at her home in Gainesville, Florida. Susan grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, and, after graduation from FSU, spent many years in Cullman, where she taught elementary school and received a master’s degree from UAB. While in Cullman, she married Robert Werner and helped run a family retail business.
