CULLMAN — Sibyl Bates Whetstone

Funeral services for Sibyl Bates Whetstone, 89, of Montgomery will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at Southern Memorial, the Rev. Larry Armstrong officiating. A private burial will follow.

Southern Memorial of Montgomery is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Whetstone died Tuesday, Jan. 29, at her residence. She was born in Haralson County, Ga., to Rufus S. and Mary Johnson Bates. After graduating from Cold Springs High School she worked in Birmingham. She moved to Montgomery when she married William Guy Whetstone. Sibyl and Guy were charter members of Eastern Hills Baptist Church.

Survivors include her sisters, Nell B. Harbison and Ruth Shaw of Holly Pond; sons, Kenneth (Charlene) Whetstone of Houston and Raymond Whetstone of Delaware; a daughter, Nita (Charles) Franz of Montgomery; five grandsons, Christopher Whetstone, Michael Franz, Edward Whetstone, Kevin Whetstone and Jeffrey Franz; a granddaughter, Kelly Ward; and a great-grandson, Zachary Ward.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Eastern Hills Baptist Church or to Alacare Hospice.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

The family wishes to thank Alacare Home Health and Hospice and her five caregivers: Betty Cheatham, Vickie Dudley, Betty Thompson, Betty Adair and Maggie Lewis, for their loving care.
