CULLMAN — Marie Drake Pattillo

Funeral services for Marie Drake Pattillo, 92, of Birchwood Meadows in Flushing, Mich., were at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at Mayfair Bible Church on Pierson Road.

Riegle Funeral Home-Sunset Chapel in Flushing is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Pattillo went to her heavenly home Monday, Jan. 28, as her children stood by her side. She was born July 10, 1920, in Cullman, the firstborn of Amel and Nora Wilhite Drake. She married Herman Pattillo on June 14, 1942. During World War II, Marie worked at Brookley Field Air Base in Mobile, Ala., repairing airplane altimeters.  In 1954, they moved to Flint, Mich., and in 1962, Marie took a position at Sears as a seamstress in the men’s suit department. She retired in 1983. Marie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved us all unconditionally. She took pleasure in cooking big family dinners and cobbler pies were her specialty. She also enjoyed working outside in her flower and vegetable gardens. Marie had a great sense of humor and a strong faith. She was an active member at Mayfair Bible Church until her health failed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Pattillo; sisters, Frances Carlton and Naomi Cartledge; and a brother, Euel Drake.

She leaves her family of three children, Terrell (Carol) Pattillo, Vincent (Mary) Pattillo, and Cathleen (Tom) Spomer; grandchildren, Mark (Jennice) Pattillo, Gwen (Paul) McDonald, Lana and Alex Spomer; great-grandchildren, Chloe McDonald, and Aubree and Bradyn Pattillo; brothers, Hansel (Lottie) Drake, Wallace (Sue) Drake and Franklin (Ellen) Drake; and many nieces and nephews.

Contributions may be made to the youth department at Mayfair Bible Church.

Visitation was Thursday at the funeral home and an hour before services on Friday.

The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the staff at Birchwood Meadows for the special care given to their mother these past two-and-a-half years. Share your condolences with the family at www.reiglefuneralhome.com.
