Willy Ernest Burmester
Funeral services for Willy Ernest Burmester, 81, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at Moss-Service Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. John Bussman officiating, with interment in Cullman City Cemetery.
Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Burmester died Monday, Jan. 14, in Biloxi, Miss. He was born Feb. 9, 1931, in Carroll, Neb., to Rudolph and Kathe Langheim Burmester. He was a farmer and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He served 40 years with the U.S. Government in the agricultural industry, 12 of those as county committee chairperson. He was farmer of the year in 1980 for Cullman County. He gave 12 years of service as a Gold Kist board member, and 12 years on the board of Jefferson County Farmers Market. He served four years on the board of Southern States of Cullman. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and a member of the BPOE, Cullman Lodge 1609.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Henry Burmester; and a sister, Dorothy Meadows.
Survivors include two sons, Edward (Jane) Burmester and George Burmester; two daughters, Martha (Rodney) Jenkins and Carol (Robert) Sandlin; and four grandchildren, Jennifer Jenkins, Claire Jenkins, Daniel Sandlin and Megan Sandlin.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
