Funeral services for Calvin Cedell Parker, 84, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009, at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel, Tony Tidwell and Jimmy Sawyer officiating, with interment with military honors in Oak Hill Cemetery in Oneonta.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Parker died Friday, Sept. 4, at his residence. He was born May 1, 1925, in Blount County to Sam and Minnie Chamblee Parker. Mr. Parker was the former owner of Parker Metal Works, an ordained deacon and a member of Hanceville First Baptist Church. He served two terms as president of the Hanceville Lions Club and was a former Hanceville City councilman.  He served in the 426th Artillery Batallion and occupational forces in Germany for the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jason Parker; and four sisters, Elsie Price, Geneva Putman, Hannah Price and Hazel Crumbley.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Nell Parker; three daughters, Melissa (Rex) Howard, Susie (Carl) Gillham and Jennifer (Brad) Burnham; a sister, Mae Crumbley; four grandsons, Ronnie Howard, Matthew Howard, Heath Gillham and Parker Burnham; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Cullman County.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Howard, Matthew Howard, Heath Gillham, Michael Sawyer, Lavon Smith and James Wales.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Monday.

The family would like to send a special thank you to nieces, Mary Hassell, Virginia White and Judy McClendon, for the many hours spent taking care of Mr. Parker.
