CULLMAN — Rachel Barker Hill

Rachel Barker Hill of Cullman, Alabama passed away Saturday, April 13, 2013, after a valiant battle against cancer. She spent the last weeks of her life peacefully at her daughter’s home in Dallas, Texas where she was surrounded by her husband, children, grandchildren and dedicated caregivers.

Rachel was born Oct. 31, 1932, in Dentville, Copiah County, Miss., the eighth of 10 children of Robert Barker and Elma Sullivan Barker. She grew up in Dentville and continued to visit and love the family farm there her entire life. She moved with her family from Siler City, N.C., to Cullman in 1971 and taught at West Point Elementary for the last 25 years of her career. She devoted her life to her students and her family and was especially proud of her five grandchildren.
