CULLMAN — Roxy ‘Margaret’ Franks Rowlett

Graveside services for Roxy “Margaret” Franks Rowlett, 85, of Hanceville will be at Green Hill Memorial Gardens in Middlesboro, Kent.

Mrs. Rowlett died Wednesday, April 17. She was born August 4, 1927 to Carl and Maude Franks of Waterloo, Ala. and later moved to Savannah, Tenn.

After high school she moved to Memphis, Tenn. and attended nursing school, where she earned her degree as a registered nurse. While working at the Veterans Hospital she met and fell in love with WWII veteran Arvile Rowlett of Middlesboro, Kent. They married and had one daughter, Carolyn. The family resided on Winchester Ave. in Middlesboro for many years. Later in life she attended Lincoln Memorial University where she earned her master’s degree. Both Margaret and Arvile were active members of East Cumberland Avenue Baptist Church, as well as the community. After the death of her husband, she moved to Hanceville where she resided with family.

She is preceeded in death by her husband Arvile Rowlett; and sisters, Anna Kirkland, Emogen Cox, and Marie Franks,; and brothers Wayne Franks, Earl Franks, Taylor Franks, and John Franks.

Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Martin (Tiger) of Hanceville; a grandaughter, Dana Smith Kritner (Robbie) of Hanceville; a grandson, Stacy Peck (Stacy), or Crane Hill; great-grandaughters, Amy Kritner of Hanceville, and Rileigh Peck of Crane Hill; great-grandson Wyatt Arvile Peck of Crane Hill; sisters, Jane Keating of Jackson, Miss, Ruth Fisher of Savannah, Tenn., and Martha Busbee of Atlanta, Ga; brothers Len Franks of Charlottesville, NC., Otis Franks of Louisville, Kent., and James Paul Franks of Knoxville, Tenn.

She was a devoted nurse, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all. She will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to East Cumberland Ave. Baptist Church in Middlesboro, Kent.

    Carlton Eugene Stafford, 82, of Cullman passed away Saturday, July 26, 2014, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born April 14, 1932, James and Mary Katherine Brown Stafford. Mr. Stafford was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was the original owner of Carlton’s restaurant.
