Mr. Weissend was preceded in death by his parents, Harry William and Ruth Tingle Weissend; his father and mother-in-law, Charles Ignatius and Norma Avery Smith Boike; and infant twin sons.
He leaves behind his devoted and loving wife, Mary Jane Boike Weissend; a son Patrick (Kim ) Weissend; a beautiful daughter, Denise (Tim) Patterson; a son, Greg (Jennie) Weissend; and grandchildren, Jake Morrow, Stephen Morrow, Lily Weissend, Judge Weissend, Eric Patterson and Trent Patterson; one sister, Linda (Paul) Boike; brothers Doug (Patty) Weissend, Steve (Cathy) Weissend of Christoval, TX and Danny (Carol) Weissend of Gordo; many nieces and nephews, all who knew Phil to be a loving, caring man with great sense of humor.
Weissend was born to Harry William and Ruth Tingle Weissend on June 16, 1941. Cullman has always been his home and he has always loved this community. He was a life-long member of Sacred Heart Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He graduated from Sacred Heart School in 1955 and St. Bernard Prep School in 1959.
He married Mary Jane Boike on Nov. 24, 1961. They shared many happy and memorable moments with many friends and family for 47 and a half years.
He founded Weissend Electric Company in 1977, where every day he was happy to warm your house and warm your heart. He worked closely with his sons and grandsons to teach them the trade of electrical work and HVAC. While his oldest son moved on to a different career, his youngest son will carry on the family business and continue with the values and lessons his father has so lovingly passed along.
Phil and Mary Jane instilled the values of faith, hard work, honesty and fairness to all of their children and grandchildren. His hobbies included gardening, baking bread and cookies with the grandchildren and collecting antiques. His favorite thing above all was to spend time with his grandchildren, who were the apple of his bright blue eyes. He taught them many one-liners, “It’s too windy to haul rocks,” tricks “Let’s go listen for the daybreak.” and told them stories that will be cherished and passed on to many Weissends to come.
Pallbearers will be Tim Schiehl, Tyrone Gray, Michael Tomlin, Ken Walling, Brian Fulenwider, Paul Mackentepe and honorary pallbearer Tommy Teeling.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask donations be made to Sacred Heart School Foundation, Omega Hospice and Sacred Heart Church stained glass window fund.
