VINEMONT — Gladys Veigl Carroll

Gladys Veigl Carroll, 98, of Lee’s Summit, Mo., passed away Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at John Knox Village Hospice. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at Moss-Service Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, at Cullman First Church of the Nazarene, with burial in Cullman City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cullman First Church of the Nazarene. She will lie in state at the church from 1 to 2 p.m.

Gladys was born March 3, 1915, in Cullman, Ala. She was a nurse for 40 years, having been asked in the late 1960s to lead the nursing team that helped open the first ICU at Cullman Hospital. Gladys was a loving mother and friend, compassionate and kind to all. She was faithful to God and her church throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Zona Boone Canant; siblings, Melba, Juanita, Oran and Evelyn; and her husbands, Frank J. Veigl (1964) and Paul F. Carroll (1984).

Survivors include a daughter, Judy Veigl; stepchildren, Charles (Glenna), Mabel (Bob) Emerson, Sarah (John (2007)) Dunn, Eunice (Ron) Rankin, Fletcher (Millie), Paul (Faith) and Polly (Lee) Gangaware; 16 stepgrandchildren; a brother, Walton (Sylvia) Canant; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
