CULLMAN — Jerrol Dean Smith Sr.

Funeral services for Jerrol Dean Smith Sr., 79. of Cullman will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at Moss-Service Funeral Home Chapel, Buddy Perkins officiating, with burial in Oak Level Cemetery.

Mr. Smith was born July 28, 1933, in Cullman to Jackson A. and Bessie M. Smith. He passed away Monday, Feb. 25, at Hanceville Nursing Home. Jerrol served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, taught air conditioning/refrigeration at Wallace State in the ’70s; retired from the State of Alabama in 1995, and then continued his work for the City of Cullman from 1996-2004.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Kelly L. Smith; and a brother, Arlie J. Smith.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Linda Butts Smith; a daughter, Elaine (Robert Jackson) Smith of Huntsville; a son, Jerrol D. (Kelly L.) Smith Jr. of Cullman; two sisters, Glenice Smith and Jean Moore, both of Cullman; two brothers, Carlton Smith of Cullman and Larry Smith of Hayden; two grandchildren, Amber (Tommy) Duke of Hanceville and Marlena (Chad) Hand of Cullman; and two special godchildren, Katie Heaton of Cullman and Baylee Vest of Eva.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
