William Clay ‘Shorty’ Allred
Funeral services for William Clay “Shorty” Allred, 61, of Lynn, Ala., formerly of Cullman, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at Pinkard Funeral Home Chapel, Bro. Mickey Crane officiating, with burial in Lynn Cemetery.
Pinkard Funeral Home-Haleyville is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Allred passed away Wednesday, Sept. 19. He served with the U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne during the Vietnam war. He was a member of New Bethany Church of God.
Bill was a wonderful husband, father and brother, but his biggest accomplishment in life was being “Pa-Pa” to his grandsons. He loved fishing, hunting and spending his time taking care of his “Lucy.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Dorothy Allred; two brothers, James and Jimmy Allred; a great-nephew, Lance Allred; his grandparents, W.T. and Julia Murphree; his father-in-law, Verlie Barton; and a brother-in-law, David Barton.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Barton Allred; two daughters, Heather (Shane) Wakefield and Tanya (Chad) Clark; his two pride-and-joys, grandsons, Cody Shane Wakefield and Kasey Gunner Clark; three sisters, Shirley (Jack) Springer, Judy (Phillip) Davenport and Brenda (Ernie) Swindle; his mother-in-law, Flora Mae Barton; and several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
