CULLMAN —
Funeral services for Paul William Rigsby, 81, of Cullman, will be 2 p.m. Monday, July 16, 2012, at Moss-Service Funeral Home, with the Revs. John Richter and Jim Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Crane Hill.
Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Rigsby died Thursday, July 12, 2012, at his residence. He was born Oct. 20, 1930, in Birmingham to Lonard C. and Sarah Elizabeth Rigsby.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Jerrie Parker, and two brothers, Darwin Rigsby and Larry Rigsby.
Survivors include his wife, Etna Pittman Rigsby of Cullman; two daughters, Cheri (Lachlan) Powell of Cullman, and Lisa (Ron) Gilbert of Birmingham; a son, Billy (Carol) Rigsby of Cullman; grandchildren: Lee (Ginger) Powell, Will (Andrea) Rigsby, Josh (Shell) Rigsby, and Jessica Gilbert; great-grandchildren: Emmaline Powell, Noah Rigsby and Reise Rigsby.
Paul Rigsby joined the Army while in high school. He was paratrooper/medic stationed in Sendai, Japan, for three years. Upon returning to Cullman he attended and graduated from Cullman High School in 1950. There he met his future wife, Etna Pittman. They married that same year on July 8, 1950. He later joined the Air Force. He and Etna had three children, Cheri, Billy and Lisa.
During his career in the Air Force his assignments included bases located in Casablanca, Morroco, North Africa, Austin, Texas, and Bangor, Maine. He was the Air Force recruiter in Cullman for five years. He was a sector supervisor of Air Force recruiting Command Center for the Southeastern United States in Nashville, Tenn. In 1970, he retired and returned to Cullman where he and Etna purchased a 360-acre cattle farm and became an insurance agent for Liberty National Insurance Co. He and Etna sold the farm in 1976 and he opened a bail bonding business.
One of his favorite things to do was meet with friends for morning coffee at the All Steak. Pa Pa Rigsby loved spending a lot of time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Paul was very devoted to God, family and country. He will be surely missed.
Visitation will be Monday, July 16, 2012, at Moss-Service Funeral Home from 12 noon until service time at 2 p.m.
