Ernest Ray Tanner
Funeral services for Ernest Ray Tanner, 78, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Monday, June 24, 2013, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the Rev. John Bussman officiating, with interment in Bethel Methodist Cemetery. The body will lie in state from noon to 1 p.m. at the church.
Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Tanner died Thursday, June 20, at his residence. He was born Aug. 20, 1934, in Decatur to Curtis O. and Selma Smith Tanner. He was an aerospace engineer with NASA and a Korean war veteran.
He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Selma E. Johnson; a sister, Shirley Rommens; and brothers, Jerry L. and Curtis E. Tanner.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Mary Zinsmeister Tanner; three sons, William “Billy” (Charlene) Tanner, Roger Eric Tanner and E. Ray “Buddy” Tanner II, all of Cullman; a sister, Dianne (Bill) Nettles of Huntsville; a brother, Terry (Marilyn) Tanner of Colorado; a brother-in-law, Don (Ellen) Zinsmeister; he was blessed with five grandsons, Dustin Tanner, Steven Tanner, Brandon Tanner, Alex Tanner and Tyler Tanner; a granddaughter, Cristin Tanner (Tyler) Allen; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
He was much loved by his family and friends.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
