CULLMAN — Eleanor Augusta ‘Gussie’ Wilson Canaday

Funeral services celebrating the life of Eleanor August “Gussie” Wilson Canaday, 73, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at St. John’s Evangelical Protestant Church, with interment in Cullman City Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Gussie was born April 19, 1940, to Pete and Lucille Wilson in Columbia, South Carolina. She moved to Cullman in 1965. She dedicated her life to raising her sons.  She was known for her Southern hospitality and gift of entertaining. She will be remembered for her laugh, her determination, and her loving devotion to her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Laura Bullock and Frances Dennis.

Survivors include her two sons, Eddie (Kim) Canaday and Josh (Kathy) Canaday; five grandchildren, Nick, Reed, Jordan, Harper and Jessi Canaday; two honorary daughters, Cil Porter and Jane Merrick; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial offerings and donations be made to St. John’s Evangelical Protestant Church or to a charity of your choice.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. John’s Church.
