William ‘Teddy’ Powe
Funeral services for William “Teddy” Powe, 91, of Hanceville will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Center Grove Baptist Church, Stanley Kilgore officiating, with burial in Center Grove Cemetery. The body will lay in state from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.
Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Powe died Wednesday, May 1, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. Teddy was born Sept. 5, 1921, to William and Effie Oden Powe. He was raised in the Pleasant Grove community. A U.S. Army soldier, he served his country in World War II as a rifleman and a bazooka man, fighting in the Campaign Rhineland, Campaign Ardennes and the Battle of the Bulge. He served in the 75th Division, with the 289th Infantry, until the end of the war. After returning home, he met and married the love of his life, Ruby Evelyn Graham, on Nov. 11, 1950, and together they raised four children: Rebecca, Judy, Regina and Randy.
Mr. Powe was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of nearly 60 years; daughter, Regina; his brothers, Ruby and Walter; brothers-in-law, Orville Quattlebaum, Sam Pellegra and Hollis Reed; and sister-in-law, Othell Reed.
Survivors include a son, Randy (Jill) Powe; daughters, Rebecca (Herman) Loyd and Judy Guthrie; a brother, Clarence (Martha) Powe; five sisters, Sevola Pellegra, Jeanette Quattlebaum, Willodean Johnson, Jackie (Ulen) Quattlebaum and Gaynell Marty; a sister-in-law, Melvoree (Johnny) Mead; grandchildren, Kimberly Tubbs, Jaime (Nathan) Sweeney, Kelley (Adam) Burgess, Amanda (Chris) Campbell, Susan Newman, Misty (Chad) Shannon, Patricia (Theo) Jundgren and Myra Brock; great-grandchildren, Zachery, Chelsea and Amanda Hale, Addyson, Canaan and Lakyn Burgess, Parker Campbell, Brittney Cooper and Hailey and Wynn Shannon; and great-great-grandchildren, Layla Elizabeth Hale and Kirra Rain McDonald.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
