Katherine Shelton Green
Katherine Shelton Green, 99, died peacefully Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, at Chapman Healthcare in Alexander City, Alabama.
She was born May 13, 1914, in Gantts Quarry, Alabama, and was raised and attended school in Eclectic, Alabama. She married George A. Green June 16, 1935. They lived in Cullman and moved to Hanceville, Alabama, where they lived until George’s death in 1979. Katherine later returned to her home in Eclectic, Alabama. She and George were avid golfers and travelled across the USA multiple times. Katherine was employed for many years at Leeth National Bank in Cullman. George and his brother, Wallace, owned and operated Green Bros. General Store in Hanceville.
Preceding her in death were five brothers: Joseph, George, Edward, Howard and Edison Shelton; and four sisters: Eunice, Christeen Backman, Evelyn Lamberth and Mavis Fuller.
She is survived by nieces and nephews from California to Florida. Locally, she is survived by a cousin, Aline Kinser Edmondson of Cullman.
A memorial service and celebration of 99 years of life was held at 1 p.m Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, at the United Methodist Church, Eclectic, Alabama.
