Carroll Douglas ‘Doug’ Holcomb
Carroll Douglas “Doug” Holcomb, 62, of Pace, passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2013.
Doug was born in Cullman, Ala., and had lived in the Pace area since 1980. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Pensacola (main office on Jordan Street), with over 30 years of service. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran with over nine years of service. He was a member of A.B.A.T.E. motorcycle organization of which he was a former vice president.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Russell A. “Pete” Holcomb and Opal Virginia Sivils Holcomb; a niece, Cynthia Black; and a nephew, Brian Creel.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Rebecca “Becky” L. Holcomb of Pace; two daughters, Sonia Celeste (Mark) Shelton and Cecilia Lynn (Chris) Vance, both of Pace; two brothers, Alford Holcomb and Charles Holcomb, both of Cullman; a sister, Louise Holcomb Clark of Decatur, Ala.; and five grandchildren, Austin Shelton, Brianna Shelton, Landon Vance, Blake Vance and Haley Vance.
A visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at the Lewis Funeral Home in Pace.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at Lewis Funeral Home, with Laura Ward and Rick Elliott officiating.
Mr. Holcomb will be taken to Holly Pond Funeral Home in Holly Pond, Ala. There will be a visitation at 1 p.m. Sunday, at Gum Pond Primitive Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. at the church with Elders Heath Williams, J.L. Hopper and Dan Hopper officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery.
