Winford I. ‘Lidy’ Walker
Funeral services for Winford I. “Lidy” Walker, 89, of Cullman were at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2012, at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home Chapel, the Revs. Gary McRae and Ray Lathem officiating, interment in Berlin Cemetery at Mt. Carmel.
Cullman Heritage Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Walker died Monday, Feb. 27, at his residence, just one week before he would have turned 90. Mr. Walker founded Walker’s Corner USA after his discharge from the Army Corp of Engineers in 1945. During the years following, he owned several successful businesses: Southland Contracting, a road construction company; Lidy’s Lake, a recreational lake open to the public for swimming, fishing and picnicking; Lidy’s Speedway, a dirt track enjoyed by locals; and Southland Water Works, a utility furnishing city water to rural customers before it was widespread in Cullman County. Mr. Walker loved his family and friends greatly, and was loved in return.
He was preceded in death by his parents, O.I. and Lottie Alldredge Walker; an infant daughter, Bobbie L. Walker, who shared his birthday; a great-great-grandson, Brantley Irvin Walker; brothers, R.L. “Bill”, W.O. “Gid”, O.H. “Jimmy”, and C.W. “Carl” Walker; and sisters, Velma “Sissy” Payne, Eula, Trecy Turner and Mary Dean Reed.
Lidy is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Marie Markland Walker; three sons, Frank, George (Doris), and Joe D. (Joan) Walker; two daughters, Marie “Tootie” (James) Sanford and Brenda Baughman; a sister, Lois Edgil; 14 grandchildren, Kenneth (Trina), Richard (Dana), Michael (Sommer), Lesley (Lisa), LaWayne Walker, Ronnie (Sharon) Westmoreland, Tony (Daisy) Sanford, Nickie (Felicia) and Brad (Mandi) Hall, April (Darren) Haramija, Sherry (Marvin) Latham, Bobbie (Andrew) Knedlik, Barbi and Tina (Zack Aspinwall) Baughman; 24 great-grandchildren, Lance (Jessica) Walker, Braden, Landen and Wesley Walker, Cody Westmoreland, Trent Kildow, Jace Sanford, Caleb Knedlik, Caiden Hall, Dylan Love Haramija, Lydia, Lily and Ella Latham, Callie and Casey Westmoreland, Serena Knedlik, Destiny Oden, Alexis Sanford, Sydni, Kynzi and Avree Hall, and Phoenix, Jeffery Aspinwall and Alex Corneglio Dasha Reynolds and Stacie (George) Wessel; a great-great-grandchild, Geight Wessel; a godchild, Madison Washburn; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Carlton Eugene Stafford
Carlton Eugene Stafford, 82, of Cullman passed away Saturday, July 26, 2014, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born April 14, 1932, James and Mary Katherine Brown Stafford. Mr. Stafford was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was the original owner of Carlton’s restaurant.
