Cullman Heritage Funeral Home
Henry Earl ‘Buster’ McClain
Henry Earl “Buster” McClain went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, April 23, 2013. God probably said, “You been farming long? Come and rest now, good and faithful servant.” Born Oct. 19, 1931, to a second-generation farmer, it was only natural he should claim farming as his career.
He served two years in the U.S. Army before marrying Carolyn Giles in 1955. They were married 24 years before she preceded him in going home. He remarried in 1981 to Martha Webb, and is survived by his loving wife and four children: Kenneth Hane McClain (Laura), Joe Keith McClain (daughter-in-law Pamela Brown McClain), Lisa Kay (Kenneth Brown), and Carolyn Rebecca (Shawn Nelson).
Also surviving him are his nine grandchildren, Kendra (Greg) Hutto, Andrea (Matthew) Roberts, Heath McClain, Katie McClain, Kyle Brown, Breanna McClain, Courtney (Jeremy) Simpson, Chandler Nelson and Graham Nelson; and four great-grandchildren, Ian Taylor, Millie Taylor, Addie-Laine Roberts and McClain Roberts.
He was a man of prayer and ordained deacon who was known more as “Daddy” and “Pappaw” in his later years. One could usually find him wearing his coveralls and cowboy hat and boots, sitting on his front porch swing, or driving around McClain Farms on his tractor.
Farmers never truly retire as the seeds they sow continue to bear fruit long after they are gone. This is the case with the Gospel seeds Earl McClain planted in his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and countless others.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 26, at the funeral home.
Celebration services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. A final tractor ride will immediately follow at Flint Creek Cemetery.
