CULLMAN — Marie Eloise Bowling

Funeral services for Marie Eloise Bowling, 84, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at Moss-Service Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bowling died Wednesday, Nov. 13, at her residence. She was born June 16, 1929, to Riley and Ethel Duffey McClendon. She was a retired school teacher. She began her teaching career at Trimble in a one-room schoolhouse with a coal heater. Then she taught at St. Paul’s Lutheran School and retired after many years with special needs students at Margaret Jean Jones Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. “Bill” Bowling; her parents; a sister, Betty Faye Lumpkin; and three brothers, Mark McClendon, Jerry McClendon and Chester McClendon.

Survivors include a son, Chuck Bowling; two daughters, Dianne Holcomb and Rebecca (Ed) Asher; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.

    Carlton Eugene Stafford, 82, of Cullman passed away Saturday, July 26, 2014, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born April 14, 1932, James and Mary Katherine Brown Stafford. Mr. Stafford was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was the original owner of Carlton’s restaurant.

    Susan Werner died Monday, July 21, 2014, as a result of an apparent fall at her home in Gainesville, Florida. Susan grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, and, after graduation from FSU, spent many years in Cullman, where she taught elementary school and received a master’s degree from UAB. While in Cullman, she married Robert Werner and helped run a family retail business.
