Funeral services for Kennith L. “Kenny” Smith, 65, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at Faith Baptist Church in Vinemont, the Rev. Glenn Pender officiating, with interment in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Smith passed away Monday, Jan. 7, at his residence following a battle with cancer. He was born Feb. 12, 1947, in Cullman to C.J. and Ruth Yeager Smith. Kenny was a Vietnam veteran, having served two tours in Vietnam and was wounded in 1967. He came out of the U.S. Army as a sergeant E-5. When he was discharged, he worked for Hayes Aircraft in Birmingham, then Mackentepe Honda for several years before going to work for Nicholson File. After a major layoff, he went to work for Americold, where he worked until it closed. Kenny was a security officer at Wallace State Community College for the last seven-and-a-half years. He loved his job taking care of the teachers that had to work late at night.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Kermit Keith Smith; a daughter, Melinda Smith Allen; and his father- and mother-in-law, Woodrow and Tiny Crutchfield.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Jane Ann Crutchfield Smith; two sons, Heath (Tracy) Smith and Anthony (Deidra) Smith; five grandsons, Dustin and Logan Smith, Trey White, Zackery Allen and Dustin King; a sister, Runna (Tim) Faulkner; a sister-in-law, Janice Smith Powell; three nephews, Chad Smith, Tim and Allen Sartin; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
