Meldred Horace Fleming
Funeral services for Meldred Horace Fleming, 90, of Snead will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2013, at Valley Chapel of Oneonta, the Revs. Fred Nichols and J.D. Putman officiating, with interment in Ebenezer Cemetery.
Valley Chapel of Oneonta is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Fleming died May 11, at the Veterans Administration in Birmingham. He was born Sept. 20, 1922, in Blount County to Horace Scranford and Geneva Almedia Wilson Fleming. He was a self-employed techinician in the heating/air conditioning field. He was a member of Siloam Baptist Church in McClarty; he served in the U.S. Army and then served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post 818 and the VFW Post 5624 and a Master Mason with the Walnut Grove Masonic Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sharon Baker; two brothers, Glendon Othel Fleming and Onhree Fleming; and a sister, Sarah Fleming.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Fleming of Snead; two sons, Jerry (Pat) Fleming of Snead and Bruce (Linda) Fleming of Prattville; two daughters, Jennie (Keith) Winger of Folsom and April White of Nashville, Tenn.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mavis Brown of Oneonta and Rita Pylate of Mobile; and a brother, Bobby Fleming of Gulfport, Miss.
Pallbearers will be Gordon Brown, Bo Kornegay, Mike Jones, George Elrod, Norman Killingsworth and Dewayne Oden.
Honorary pallbearers include Billy Elrod and Richard McCoy.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
