CULLMAN — Ardis Whaley

Funeral services for Ardis Whaley, 85, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012,  at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel, Dillon Calvert and Michael Parker officiating, with interment in New Prospect Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Whaley passed away Monday, Oct. 8, at his residence. He was a member of Kinney Grove Baptist Church and served as a deacon for 46 years. He loved yard work and was an avid gardener. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean war.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Hollis Whaley and Retter Jane Hollis Whaley; two brothers, Avis Whaley and Alton Whaley; and six sisters, Valene Trapp, Ellene Trapp, Clara Wilson, Lesilee Welch, Joyce Turner and Vernell Stricklin.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline Graves Whaley; three children, Larry (Brenda) Whaley, Ronald (Tammy) Whaley and Vickie (Roy) Jackson; eight grandchildren, Rachael (Rod) Cates, Janet (Jeremy) Cockrell, KeRin (Shane) Freeman, Johnny (Nikki) Whaley, Wesley (Amanda) Whaley, Jeremy S. (Amie) Jackson, Lisa (Brandon) Jett and K.C. Dickerson; 16 great-grandchildren, Caleb, Caitlin, Cade, Grace, Eli, Avery, Aaron, Lawson, Addison, James, John, Savana, Olivia, Bryce, Carson and Reese; a brother, Buddy (Ruby) Whaley, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Rod Cates, Jeremy Cockrell, Shane Freeman, Wesley Whaley, Jeremy S. Jackson, Brandon Jett, K.C. Dickerson and Jamie Whaley.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
