CULLMAN — Darrell L. ‘Red’ Rutherford

Memorial services for Darrell L. “Red” Rutherford, 82, of Rio Rico, Ariz., will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at Ridgewood Memorial Park in Des Plaines, Ill. A piece of Connie’s heart will remain with Darrell forever.

Darrell lost his brave battle with kidney cancer Wednesday, July 26, at the Sherman Hospice House on the Mayo Clinic campus in Phoenix, Ariz. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. In 1990, he retired as a lithographer (printer) after 42 years in the trade. In 1995, he moved from Des Plaines, Ill., to Rio Rico, Ariz.

Darrel was born June 5, 1930, in Cullman to John and Lila Blankenship Rutherford.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lois Kimball Bradley, Fay (Jerry) Girard and Laura (John) Manderino; and brothers, John (Christine), Duell (Shirley), and Wayne (Barbara); and his best friend and father-in-law, James Gunning.

He is survived by one brother, Joel (Chris) Rutherford. Other survivors include his wife, Connie; his children, Scott (Catherine) Rutherford, Debra (Dan) Procknow, Cami (John) Bajek, Darrell Naughton, James Kosek, Sue Iniquez and Joe Perkins.

His grandchildren include Patrick and Natalie Rutherford, Caitlin and Adam Procknow, Kenneth and Jessica Quiram, Kristen and Nash Bajek, Patrick and Jonathan Naughton and Aubrey Kosek, along with many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Lenore Gunning; and sisters-in-law, Linda Gunning and Susan (William) Luzinski and family.
