Horace N. Smith
Funeral services for Horace N. Smith, 87, of Cullman, formerly of Bessemer, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at Valhalla Funeral Home in Midfield, with interment in Patterson-Forrest Grove Cemetery in Bessemer.
Mr. Smith went peacefully on to be with his Lord on Tuesday, July 31, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Aug. 23, 1924, in Cullman to Mance and Myrtle Lindsey Smith. He was retired from U.S. Steel in Bessemer. In his later years, he enjoyed growing roses and tulips. He also loved gardening and raising fruit trees. He was known to always be an encourager to his children and grandchildren. His sweet, gentle spirit will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three children, Betty (Terry) Jones, Ann Smith, and Horace N. (Rosemary) Smith Jr.; sisters, Esther (Dewey) Lands, I.V. (K.V.) Fowler and Berta Sue (Horace) Bonner; brothers, Hershel (Ruby) Smith, Vernon (Inez) Smith and Henderson (Nell) Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; children, Sandy (Joel) Hill, Rosanna (Bobby) Lester, Sherry (Darrell) Bailey, David (Vicki) Smith, Malcolm Lee (April) Smith and Leslie Lynne Easterling; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchldren, and many other loving family members and friends.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at Valhalla Funeral Home in Midfield.
