— William Alton ‘Al’ Burks
Funeral services for William Alton “Al” Burks, 79, of Cullman will be at noon Saturday, March 13, 2010, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, the Revs. Dennis Trimble and Steve Rogers officiating, with interment in the church cemetery. Mr. Burks will lie in state from 11 a.m. to noon at the church.
Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Burks passed away Thursday, March 11, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born June 5, 1930, to Walter J. and Leathie Pearl Butler Burks. Al was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean War, and a member of North Side Baptist Church. After his retirement from driving, he continued to drive charter buses for various groups around the Cullman City area. He also enjoyed spending his time at the Commission On Aging and at the Donald Green Senior Center.
He was preceded in death his parents; and his wife, Jessie Burks.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Delores (Curt) Woodard; a son, Daniel Wayne Burks; a grandson, Brian Daniel (Sherriden) Woodard; a great-grandson, Jordan Daniel Woodard; a great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Clare Woodard; a brother, James Alden (Juanita) Burks; four sisters, Pearlie Opaline Harper, Clovis May (Jimmy) Hamrick, Judah Faye (Edmund) Gallegos and Edna Ruth Kilgo; and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
Pallbearers will be Roger Holley, Jimmy Walker, Kenneth Kilgo, Chris Robinson, David Johnson and Robert Bailey.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Harper and Alden Burks.
Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
