Edith Marie Thomas
Edith Marie Thomas, 77, of Mint Hill, N.C., passed away peacefully at Hospice of Union County Friday, Feb, 28, 2014. She was born June 16, 1936, in Hanceville, Ala. Edith was one of nine children and the daughter of the late Earl and Irene Kretzschmar. She was raised in Alabama, where she met her husband, Ed, and where many of her family and friends still reside. Edith and Ed have been active members of Morning Star Lutheran Church of Matthews for over 30 years. Edith enjoyed camping, sewing, gardening and going to yard sales.
She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Ed Thomas; three children, Susan Thomas (Carmen Jr.) DeAndrea of Mooresville, Tim (Danielle) Thomas of Waxhaw and Terry (Shelley) Thomas of Gilbert, S.C. Others left to cherish her memory are nine grandchildren, a great-grandson, four sisters, a brother, and many nieces, nephews and loving friends.
Friends and family are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, March 3, at McEwen Funeral Service, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill. Celebration of life services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Morning Star Lutheran Church, 12509 Idlewild Road, Matthews, N.C. Committal services will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road in Charlotte, Pastor John Mouritsen of Waxhaw officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to Morning Star Lutheran Church, 12509 Idlewild Road, Matthews NC 28105.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Hospice of Union County.
She was loved by all, forever remembered and will be greatly missed.

Carlton Eugene Stafford
Carlton Eugene Stafford, 82, of Cullman passed away Saturday, July 26, 2014, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born April 14, 1932, James and Mary Katherine Brown Stafford. Mr. Stafford was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was the original owner of Carlton’s restaurant.

Susan Werner died Monday, July 21, 2014, as a result of an apparent fall at her home in Gainesville, Florida. Susan grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, and, after graduation from FSU, spent many years in Cullman, where she taught elementary school and received a master’s degree from UAB. While in Cullman, she married Robert Werner and helped run a family retail business.
