William Coy Smothers
William Coy Smothers, 88, of Addison entered into rest Thursday, June 12, 2014, at his residence.
Coy was born September 12, 1925, in Addison. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy for two years during World War II. He was both a member of the American Legion and was a Freemason for 51 years.
Visitation will be from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 14, at Addison First Baptist Church, where services will be at 1 p.m. Brothers Benjamin Smothers and Kenneth Sudduth will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Addison.
Coy is survived by his sons, Steve (Sherry White) Smothers, Mark (Diane) Smothers and Micah (Sherry Morgan) Smothers; daughter, Tuanya (Keith Bergeron); sisters, Eula Mae Wilson and Lona Golden; he was “Granddaddy” to nine grandchildren, Woody Smothers, David Smothers, Seth Smothers, Benjamin Smothers, Trever Yarbrough, Morgan Smothers, Reagan Smothers, Kimberly Smith and Allison Doyal; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Smothers; his parents, Newt and Mary Smothers; and a son, Stann Smothers.
The family expresses gratitude and love to the friends and neighbors who visited, brought food, and provided friendship during our daddy's life and illness. We will always treasure your friendship and love. A special “thank you” is also extended to Southern Care Hospice and to the Veteran's Administration for your love and support.
