Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Tucker passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, at Morningside Assisted Living. She was born Feb. 22, 1912, in Crane Hill to John D. and Carrie Fisher Calvert. After managing the family general store in Crane Hill for a few years, she was an employee for many years at Patrick’s Shoe Store in Cullman.
Opal lived life to its fullest until minutes before she slipped away. Prior to moving to her assisted living apartment at age 93, she continued to enjoy cooking, working in her small garden, visiting with family and attending activities at her church, Seventh Street Baptist. During her seven years at Morningside, she made many new friends, loved watching the Atlanta Braves baseball and the Alabama Crimson Tide football games, participated in activities provided for the residents, rarely missing a Bingo game and enjoyed meeting the many visitors who stopped for a time with her. The highlight of her later years was the celebration of her 100th birthday last February with a large gathering of family and friends at Morningside.
Opal is predeceased by her husband, W. Hollis Tucker; her parents; her four sisters; and seven brothers. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ramona and Fred Bohlander of Carmel, California; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Hospice of Cullman County, P.O. Box 1108, Cullman, AL 35056-1108.
