Mrs. Turney, known mostly as Lois, passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, at Covenant Hospice in Pensacola, Fla., after a brief illness. She was born June 27, 1926, in Lawrence County, Ala., to Marcus and Limmer Bates Daniel. She was the youngest child in her family. She attended Morgan County High School in Hartselle. Lois started her professional career at Oak Ridge, Tenn., during World War II. She married Wilks W. Turney in 1948, and moved to Cullman. She was employed at Cullman Lingerie during the ’50s, went to Sears for a long career during the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s. After retirement from Sears she worked at CARTS.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Marie Barrett and Melba Ford; her brother, Leldon Daniel; and her husband of 47 years, Wilks W. Turney Sr., who passed in 1995. She moved to Lillian, Ala., in 1998 to be closer to her family. In Lillian, she was a member of First Baptist Church. She was an excellent cook, decorator, gardener and all-around home economist. She loved the Lord.
Lois is survived by her loving family: Son, Wilks W. Turney Jr. (Janie) of Pensacola; her grandson, Joshua Turney (Heather) of Atlanta, Ga.; and granddaughter, Paige Elise Turney (Christopher Martin) of Pensacola. The lights of her life were great-grandson, Miles Turner; and great-granddaughter, Roxy Martin, both of Pensacola. She had many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her special friend was Nell Sanders of Lillian
