CULLMAN — Harold T. Swindle

Christmas Light Man Harold T. Swindle, 89, of Cullman went to be with Jesus Sunday, March 17, 2013. Known for years for his growing, glowing Christmas light display on Highway 69 in Simcoe, which started as an answer to his blind daughter’s wish for others to see the Christmas lights that she couldn’t see.

Harold spent the last days of his life at Folsom Center continuing his spirit of giving although he was fighting cancer.

Harold served his country in the U.S. Army. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to the Cullman area settling in Simcoe. While working at the All Steak restaurant in Cullman, he also farmed and raised chickens and hogs at the site of his beloved Christmas light display.

Harold was born Nov. 28, 1923, to Mac and Martha Swindle. He married Ruby Swindle.

Survivors include one son, Bobbie and his wife, Laura of Moulton; a daughter, Ruby Hamby of Taladega; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sons, Jerry and Rick Swindle; and two grandchildren, Joyce Swindle Stewart and Michael Swindle.

Services celebrating his life will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, at Moss-Service Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Debbie Sullins officiating, with burial in Simcoe Baptist Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m.
