Wilma Ruth Buchanan Spurgeon
Funeral services for Wilma Ruth Buchanan Spurgeon, 75, of Helena, Ala. will be Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 3 p.m. at Welti-Cumberland Presbyterian, Revs. Jimmy Peyton and Ray Lathem officiating with interment in adjoining cemetery. The body will lie in state from 2 p.m. until time of service.
Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Spurgeon died Thursday, August 23, 2012 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center. She was born August 31, 1936 in Cullman to George Littleton and Bobbie Eliza Bussey Buchanan. She was a retired travel nurse who enjoyed square dancing.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Deborah Bush; three brothers, Ezra, Coy and Otis Buchanan; and three sisters, Golda Harper, Alene Roberson and Elizabeth Crumbley.
Survivors include a daughter, Denise Edge; a son Emmitt L. “Chip” (Florence) Spurgeon, II; six grandchildren, Joseph Metzger, Rebekah Spurgeon, Christopher Spurgeon, Joshua Lee, Melissa Edge and Marianna (John Michael Yakoumis) Edge; a great-grandchild, John Zacharia Yakoumis; a brother Larry (Nadine) Buchanan; three sisters, Ada Shadinger, Mary (Arnold) Millwood and Becky (Jerry) Glover; and sisters-in-law, Louise Buchanan and Betty Buchanan.
Visitation was Friday.
