CULLMAN — Charlie B. Mitchell

Funeral services for Charlie B. Mitchell, 94, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 29, 2012, at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Stanley Dye officiating, with burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Mitchell died Thursday, July 26, at Cullman Long Term Care. He was born April 22, 1918, in Florida to Joseph W. and Nita Ball Mitchell. He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran, who served in Saipan in the South Pacific. He also operated Mitchell’s Cafeteria in Cullman for many years until he retired. He was a founding member of Greater Vision Baptist Church of Cullman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Patricia Simpson.

Survivors include his wife and the love of his life for 72 years, Lillian Opal Gibson Mitchell; two sons, Kelly (Renea) of Cullman and Brad (Nancy) Mitchell of Georgia; a brother, Douglas (Edna) Mitchell of Georgia; a brother-in-law, Douglas (Betty) Gibson of Florida; six grandchildren, Christopher (Stephanie) Simpson of Georgia, Matthew (Jennifer) Simpson of Tennessee, Beth (Craig) Alexander of Eva, Mandy Mitchell of Georgia, Will Mitchell of Cullman and Morgan Mitchell of Cullman; four great-grandchildren, Bobby Simpson, Ellie Simpson, Emily Simpson and Ella Reese Alexander; a nephew, Buzzy (Sharon) Mitchell of Georgia; a niece, Esta (William) McCrary of South Carolina; and numerous friends and church family.

Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
