Michael Mitchell Benoit
Michael Mitchell Benoit, 75, formerly of Houma, La., and Centerville, Miss., passed away Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at his Cullman home. He was born Aug. 12, 1938, in Houma to Olen Joseph and Della Marie Garibaldi Benoit.
He is survived by his wife, Julia Ann Crum; a daughter, Sharon Ayers (Jim) Conners; two sons, Ronald (Linda) Benoit and Thomas (Tonya) Ayers; two sisters, Betty Artz and Diana (Louis) Marcel; two brothers, Donald (Violet) Benoit and Barry (Sandra) Benoit; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth (Norris) Naquin and Constance (José) Cano; and a brother, Charles (Anna Rae) Benoit.
Michael grew up in a large Cajun family in the bayous of south Louisiana, where his father was a trapper. After being injured in an oilfield accident, he completed his GED and enrolled in Louisiana State University. He was in the first class that graduated from the LSU Shreveport campus, receiving a bachelor of science degree in accounting in 1975. He became an enrolled agent and successfully represented numerous taxpayers before the IRS. He came to faith in Jesus Christ in 1979, and served the First Presbyterian Church of Houma, La., as a deacon for a number of years.
Visitation will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Christ Covenant Presbyterian Church, with the funeral immediately following at 3 p.m. Rev. Andrew Siegenthaler will officiate. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, in Gloster, Miss.
