HOLLY POND — John Bowden

Funeral services for John Bowden, 72, of the Simcoe community will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, at Holly Pond Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Jimmy Peyton officiating, with interment in Zion Grove Cemetery.

Holly Pond Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bowden died Tuesday, Oct. 13, at his home. He was born in Cullman County to Truman and Ruby Jeanette Wooten Bowden. He worked at The Cullman Times and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant sister.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Plunkett Bowden of Cullman; four sons, Philip Bowden of Birmingham, John (Laura) Bowden Jr. of Fairchance, Pa., Steven (Marna) Bowden of Meridian, Miss., and Travis (Gidget) Prince of the Berlin community; a daughter, Karen (Shannon) Shea of Pensacola; a sister, Jane Smith of Cullman; four grandchildren, Alex Prince, Shelby Bowden, Christopher Hernandez and Wendy Prince; five sisters-in-law, Frances Starnes, Kathy (Gerald) Hooper, Judy (Henry) Arndt, Marilyn Giles and Debra (Randall) Daniel; and many friends he worked with at The Cullman Times.

Pallbearers will be Duffy Bunis, Wayne Robertson, Randy McKinney, Shannon Shea, Wesley Sabel and Brian Arndt.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
