James “Jim” Charles Hamrick

CULLMAN — Funeral services for James “Jim” Charles Hamrick, 84, of Cullman, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at First United Methodist Church of Cullman with burial at Hopewell Cemetery in Hanceville. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. at the church Sunday.

James Charles “Jim” Hamrick passed away Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, at Hanceville Nursing & Rehab Center. He was born in Hanceville on Jan. 6, 1929, to John Thomas Hamrick and Minnie Odell Hamrick. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Don Hamrick; and brothers-in-law: Dr. Edwin Eastham and Dr. Lebertus Green.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Sue Hamrick; sisters, Alene Eastham of Front Royal, Va., and Mary Theda Green of Salt Lake City, Utah; children: Ann Culpepper (Neal), David Hamrick (Katie), Debbie Brazeal (Ellis), and Paul Hamrick (Tatiana).

He leaves seven grandchildren: Katie Meigs (Forrest), Clay Culpepper, Mary Brazeal, Mathis Brazeal, James Brazeal, Rollins Hamrick and Ella Hamrick.

Jim joined the U.S. Air Force during his senior year at Cullman High School. He served for 22 years and 6 months, achieving the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He served in the Berlin airlift and was a veteran of the Korena War and Vietnam War. He loved his country and was involved in Alabama politics and served as a previous chairman of the Cullman County Republican Party.

After retiring from the Air Force, Jim ran his own business, Hamrick Electric, from 1970-1983. Jim was a remarkable provider. He bought his parents their first home while he was serving in the Air Force by working a second job. He also bought a home for his in-laws when they retired and moved to Cullman.

During his last days he was surrounded by his family and also received loving care from special care givers: Kathy Parsons and Krystal Henson.

    Carlton Eugene Stafford, 82, of Cullman passed away Saturday, July 26, 2014, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born April 14, 1932, James and Mary Katherine Brown Stafford. Mr. Stafford was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was the original owner of Carlton’s restaurant.
