Graveside services for David Simpson of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at Cullman City Cemetery.
Moss-Service Funeral Home will be providing arrangements.
Dr. Simpson went to be with the Lord Friday, Oct. 5. Those that will miss him most include his children, Bob, John, Carla and Jim Simpson; grandsons, Murray, Van and Walter Simpson; son-in-law, Mike Herring; daughter-in-law, Susie Simpson; and countless loyal friends, including very special friends, Anita, Diane and Clyde.
David was a native of Birmingham and graduated from Auburn University with a degree in veterinary medicine. Doc loved his Lord, his family and friends, babies, his veterinary practice, his golf, Auburn University and life in general. He will be reunited in heaven with Alice, his wife of 65 years. His golfing buddies will certainly miss him as he lined their pockets for years...but had a great time doing so. There are cats and dogs throughout the south that are grateful for his thoughtful care, but also hissing and growling at him for the cold thermometer. It’s not easy to love Auburn football this year, but he did. Doc was at Legion Field in 1948 when AU and UA renewed the rivalry, and in 1972, when the punts were blocked. He continued attending the rivalry when games went to the campus, each time with family. He never met a rule that couldn’t be broken and he never met a stranger. Don’t mourn for Doc, he was 89, but spent most of the years as a teenager and we will all see him again on the number 1 tee.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cullman First Baptist Church; or your favorite charity.
No visitation is planned at the funeral home.
