Carnell, Jones, Pender, Lackney


Bessie Gilley Carnell

A precious mother and grandmother, Bessie Gilley Carnell, went to sleep in her earthly home and woke up in her heavenly home on Friday, June 8, 2007.

A teacher is Cullman County Schools for 39 years, a majority of those in the first grade, she touched the lives of numerous students and families. Active in First Baptist Church of Holly Pond, she served the Lord as a Sunday School teacher for over 50 years. As a member of various churches and community organizations, she volunteered her time to help make the world a better place for everyone she met.

The celebration of her homegoing is shared with her loving daughters and sons-in-law, Jimmie Dean Carnell of Holly Pond, Julia and Walter Floyd of Newport News, Va. and Nancy and Lane Horton of Hanceville; and her grandchildren, Gina and Douglas Webb of Vinemont, Dr. Candace Floyd and Ed Glass of Birmingham, Anthony Marks and Susan Kitchens of Martinez, Ga., Drew Floyd and Dee Buck-Floyd of Leesburg, Va., Nathan and Kerry Horton of Alabaster, Gennifer and Shannon Baker of Decatur; and great-grandchildren, Ronan Buck-Floyd, Kadin Buck-Floyd and Robert Alexander. She is survived by her sisters Ellen Gilley Morgan of Muscle Shoals and Opal Gilley Gorham of Cullman. Sharing in her life were special committed caregivers: Pamela Phillips, Hazel Culp, Virginia Black, Jane Heaton, Dinah Thomas, Amy Caudle Weeks, Brandi Cosper, Bea Carpenter and Janet Freeman.

Bessie Gilley Carnell was born Jan. 20, 1911 in a log cabin in the Walter Community to Deaner Shaw Gilley and Robert Grant Gilley. She was preceded in death by her parents, her devoted husband, Julous O. Carnell, two brothers: Herman Gilley and Hershel Gilley, and three sisters; Beulah Gilley Smith, Irene Gilley Lukasik and Connie Gilley Tucker.

The family will be receiving visitors on Sunday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at Holly Pond Funeral Home Chapel. A celebration of her homegoing will be held at the First Baptist Church of Holly Pond at 11 a.m. with her lying in-state 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Holly Pond Cemetery.

The Revs. Horace Hall, Jack Joyner and Nathan Horton will be holding the service.



Dan Maurice Jones

Funeral services for Dan Maurice Jones, 53, or Hanceville, will be at 2 p.m. Monday, June 11, 2007 at Garden City Church of God, Larue Carraway officiating, with interment to follow at Garden City Cemetery. The body will lie in-state one hour prior to the service.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jones died Friday, June 8 at Veterans Hospital in Birmingham.

Mr. Jones was preceded in death by a daughter, Lilly Bales; and his father, Marlin E. Jones, Sr.

Survivors include his wife, Chun Hui Jones of Hanceville; daughter, Christina (Rodney) Mason of Cullman; two sons, Chris (Amber) Jones of Hanceville and Danny Song of Leeds; his mother, Onvy Jones of Garden city; two brothers,Don Jones of Jasper and Stephen Jones of Garden City ; two sisters, Mary Jane Butler of Trafford and Katherine Ann Wade of Florida; five grandchildren Hope Malea Mason, Brandon Bales, Noah Jones, Drake Song and Derek Song.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.



Perlene M. Pender

Funeral services for Perlene M. Pender, 86, of Hanceville, will be at 2 p.m. Monday, June 11, 2007, Leon Mauldin officiating, with interment to follow at Hopewell Cemetery in Hanceville.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Pender died Saturday, June 9 at Hanceville Funeral Home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Terry L. Pender; and her parents, James and Lola (Creel) McCollum.

Survivors include two sons, Bobby (Joan) Pender of Hanceville and Ronald (Cheryl) Pender of Fenton, Mich.; grandchildren: Ricky (Leisa) Pender, Tami (Bunk) Lawley, Josh (Nicole) Pender, Sherry (Chris) Cubr, Debbie Pender, Jeff (Amy) Pender and Steve Pender; great-grandchildren: Rick Lawley, Chris (Stephanie) Lawley, Kerri Pender; Kevin, Kyle, Adam and Sara Cubr, Shelby Wood, Jacob Pender and Dylan Pender; and great-great grandson, Ryan Lawley.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.



Robert Lackey

Robert Lackey, 78, of Cullman died Saturday, June 9, 2007 at his residence. Arrangements will be announced by Hanceville Funeral Home at a later time.
