Funeral services for Vivian Irene Byrd, 88, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009, at Moss-Service Funeral Home Chapel, Bros. Delbert Freeman and Brandon Pugh officiating, with interment in Cullman Memory Gardens.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Byrd passed away Sunday, Sept. 6, at home. She was born April 28, 1921, in Cullman to Ernest Roy and Lillian Weathers Cupp. Irene worked many years in the family business, Cupp Plant Company. She pulled potato slips and dug many a strawberry plant to ship all over the United States and abroad. She was most at home working in the soil and tending to the plants. She ended her working career making biscuits each morning for Jack's Truck Stop restaurant until she was 75.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest R. Cupp and Lillian Cupp; her stepmother, Anna Lou Cupp; her husband, Hollis H. Byrd; a son, Wayne (Nellie Faye) Byrd; a son-in-law, Onnie Martin; two grandsons, Sean Weatherford and Jason Bowden; a brother, Roy "Wart" Cupp; a half-brother, Bryan Cupp; and a sister, Lillian Hope (Jim) Lindsey.

Survivors include four sons, Albert (Rhonda) Byrd, Billy Byrd, Tommy (Betty) Byrd and Freddie (Kathy) Byrd, all of Cullman; two daughters, Patricia Ann Martin and Mary (Dennis) Holland, both of Corinth; nine grandchildren, Holly (Daniel) Rosen, Charity (Randy) Anderson, Jonathan (Denise) Byrd, Candy Byrd, Tracy (Brandon) Pugh, Jennifer Byrd, Kevin (Carrie) Byrd, Daniel Byrd and Brian (Kimberly) Pruitt; 15 great-grandchildren, Ben, Sarah and Elizabeth Rosen, Anthony Cockrell, Rachael Anderson, Abby and Emily Byrd, Grant Roland, Britt, Brooks, Breanna, Brayden and Braxton Pugh, Aaron and Leah Byrd; a sister, June (Jim) Cox of Cullman; two half-sisters, Brenda Akridge of Georgia and Lana Edwards of Hanceville; and two half-brothers, Dennis and Chris Cupp, both of Hanceville; and many beloved nieces, nephews and other family members.

The family wishes to include the staff of Hospice of Cullman County, for they have been an extension of our family for the past four years. Irene loved you all! We thank you for all the love and care you gave to our mother and especially the prayers each of you prayed.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Cullman County.

Visitation were from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
