Bobby Ray Gilbert
Funeral services for Bobby Ray Gilbert, 73, of Carrollton, Ala., will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at Pickensville First Baptist Church, the Revs. Tim Jones and Al Brown officiating, with burial in Pilgrim Rest Cemetery. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to services.
Skelton Funeral Home of Reform is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Gilbert died Sunday, July 19, at Pickens County Medical Center. He was born June 29, 1936, in Cordova, Ala., to Harley Gilbert and Venita G. Ferguson. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Pickensville, retired from Drummond Coal, Inc., with 39 years of service. He was also a U.S. Air Force veteran. Bobby lived in Pickensville for the past eight years. He loved to fish, watch his purple martin birds and be with his family and friends. More than anything, he loved to tell people how God had blessed him. He never met a stranger and was a friend to all. He will be missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a great-grandson.
Survivors include his wife, Jewel Gilbert of Pickensville; four daughters, Becki (Mickey) McGough of Carbon Hill, Belinda (Larry Kirkland) Gilbert and Bonnie (Scott) Hagan, all of Cullman, and Bobbie Rae (Jimmy) Rucks of Albertville; three stepchildren, Jeff Johnson of New Orleans, La., Keith (Julisa) Johnson of Reform and Jan (Tim) Bailey of Tuscaloosa; a sister, Patricia (Hilbert) Payne of Jasper; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two nephews; and a special nephew, Ray (Teresa) Robbins of Cordova.
In lieu of flowers, Bobby’s wishes were that memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Pickensville Future Development Fund, 119 Old Mill Road, Carrollton, AL 35447; or to Pilgrim Rest Cemetery Fund, c/o Lois Bruce, 4100 Sapps Road, Carrollton, AL 35447.
Pallbearers will be Mitchell Roberts, Joe Irving, Fulton Prevost, Jerry Kelley, Ray Robbins and Hugh Blackwell.
Honorary pallbearers will be the UMWA Local 1948, Melissa Blakney, and the many friends and neighbors of Rivermont.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Ruby Edmonds passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was 76 years old. She was born Aug. 12, 1937, to Delmer and Minnie Kilgo Twilley.

Edith Marie Thomas
Edith Marie Thomas, 77, of Mint Hill, N.C., passed away peacefully at Hospice of Union County Friday, Feb, 28, 2014. She was born June 16, 1936, in Hanceville, Ala. Edith was one of nine children and the daughter of the late Earl and Irene Kretzschmar. She was raised in Alabama, where she met her husband, Ed, and where many of her family and friends still reside. Edith and Ed have been active members of Morning Star Lutheran Church of Matthews for over 30 years. Edith enjoyed camping, sewing, gardening and going to yard sales.
