Funeral services for Mary Frances Burnham Taylor will be Sunday, July 5, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at Kilgore Funeral Home in Leeds, Ala. with burial in Forest Crest Cemetery. Mrs. Taylor will lie in state at Kilgore from 9 - 10:30 a.m. prior to service.

Holly Pond Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Taylor passed back over to her Creator on Friday, July 3, 2009, after enduring two and a half years of decline from Alzheimer’s Disease. It weakened and confused her, but did not defeat her. She never failed to recognize her loved ones until the last. Her loving, calm spirit endured.

She was a citizen of Holly Pond for the last 29 years and of Moody for more than 40 years. She was an amazing person who never backed down from a task. She could create beauty from nothing and never failed to charm and dazzle all who knew and loved her. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to countless. She served as VBS principal at Bethel Baptist Church and President of PTA at Moody Schools for many years in the 1960s. She continued to serve in church and civic organizations in the Holly Pond area. She was employed for many years at Wal-Mart in Cullman. She also worked at the Holly Pond Cafe, Waterbrook Cafe and most recently at Shaw’s Restaurant until the age of 80.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lother and Minnie McDaniel Burnham and a sister, Ida Mae Burnham Cleckler.

Survivors include her loving husband of 67 years, Maurice C. Taylor; sons, David C. (Molly) Taylor, Van (Rachel Patmon) Taylor, James Samuel Taylor; daughter, Cathryn Taylor (Steve)Karr; grandchildren, Lisa Lee, James Shannon (Meridith Dover) Taylor, Patrick O’Neal (Cassie Rogers) Taylor, Christina Taylor (Dagan) Bushnell, Kevin Allen (Cammie Thompson) Taylor, Stephen David Karr; 7 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lilly Mae Burnham Alexander of Cuero, TX, and Liz Burnham Fowler of Birmingham, Ala.; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2225 N. Michigan Ave. Floor 17, Chicago, Ill. 60601, or by phone at 1-800-272-3900.

Visitation will be Saturday, July 4, 2009 from 6 - 8 p.m. at Holly Pond Funeral Home in Holly Pond, Ala.
