Funeral services for Ruby Irene Nesmith, 86, of Decatur, will be at 2 p.m. May 7, 2008, at Parkway Funeral Home, Richard Chandler officiating. Interment will be in East Lawrence Memorial Gardens.
Parkway Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Nesmith died May 5, 2008 at Decatur General Hospital.
She was born Oct. 21, 1921 in Cullman County to William Levi Chumley and Arizona Madge Westmoreland Chumley.
Ms. Nesmith operated a family-owned grocery business for 11 years and Nesmith’s Hamburgers for 16 years. She was a foster grandparent in the Decatur School System for 10 years and a member of Point Mallard Parkway Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Hollis Nesmith; sisters Bertha Parker and Verna Chumley; and brothers Charley, Pete, Otha and John Chumley.
Survivors include her son Dwight (Helen) Nesmith of Decatur; daughter Carolyn (George) Wells; sister Mae Hanky of Hartselle; grandchildren Mark (Nancy) Nesmith of Lake Cormorrant, Miss., Beth (Jeff) Turner, Emily (Bo) Gardner, and Leslie (Mark) King; great-grandchildren Ellie Wilson, Kim Wilson, Kathryn Wilson, Katie Beth Turner, Mary Gardner, Lily King and Eli King; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Mark Nesmith, Bo Gardner, Mark King, Irvin Chumley, Lowell Chumley and Jeff Turner.
Visitation was Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at Parkway Funeral Home.
