As summer's heat reaches its peak, the sights and sounds of cooler weather will hopefully soon burst onto football fields across the area.
It's football season. Across the nation, fans will turn out to watch their hometown teams, marching bands and cheerleaders. Perhaps nowhere, however, is football more a part of life than the South.
Hot, sticky Friday nights start the season. Heat breaks and plenty of energy-restoring drinks are necessary to make it through four quarters.
Across Cullman County, some teams will open at home while others pack buses to travel, looking for a strong start and a run to the playoffs by November. Fans will follow to support their teams, bands and cheering squads.
The dawning of fall football is an exciting time in our communities. The anticipation of victory, the display of teamwork and sportsmanship, the sound of the bands and the roar of the crowds as touchdowns are scored brings back a thrill many people look forward to each year.
