The Adult Choir of Grace Episcopal Church will present the annual Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols at 4 p.m. Saturday, December 17. Doors open at 3:30. Come as you are to enjoy the Christmas Story in a format which has been used for more than 100 years.

Lessons and Carols explores the Season of Advent’s dual themes by focusing on the celebration of the 12 days of Christmas and the preparing of hearts and minds for the second coming of Christ.

Readings will be done by members of Grace Church and special music will be provided by the Grace Choir under the direction of Michell York accompanied by organist Sam Burk.

The Festival of Lesson and Carols has been presented at King’s College in Cambridge, England since 1918 but had its beginning with a service held on Christmas Eve in 1880. Few changes have been made to the service which is known around the world as simply “Lessons and Carols.”

The Reverend Jaime McAdams, priest at Grace Episcopal, said the service is open to all persons regardless of denominations or affiliations with other churches. “There are no strings attached. We simply want to invite our neighbors to come and enjoy the warmth of the Christmas Story,” McAdams said.
