Bid for street to be approved
The Cullman City Council is expected to award the bid for construction of a public street/industrial access road to the Messersmith/Cullman Casting property just off Golf Course Road Southwest.
The city plans to construct a 1,500-foot long road that will provide access to the Cullman Casting property from Golf Course Road.
Preliminary estimates set the cost of the road at around $340,000.
The Indiana-based company, which will manufacture gray iron castings for heavy industrial use, plans to construct a 350,000-square-foot facility on the 32-acre industrial park. The local capital investment from the project is estimated at $60 million.
The company, which hopes to start production before the end of the year, is expected to employ around 50 workers initially with employment increasing to roughly 300 employees at the end of three years.
In other business Monday, the Council:
‰ Will hold a public hearing on a request to rezone property located on Main Avenue Southwest from R-2 residential to B-1 business. The request on behalf of property owners Donald and June Miller received a favorable recommendation from the Cullman Planning Commission.
‰ Will hold a public hearing on a request to rezone vacant property in the Walker Subdivision on Dahlke Drive Northeast from AG-1 agriculture to R-3 residential. The purpose of the rezoning is to permit the planned development of garden or townhouse-type single-family dwellings in the area, which is located adjacent to Morningside of Cullman assisted living. The request, which was submitted on behalf of Walker Properties, received a favorable recommendation from the planning commission.
‰ Will consider a request to declare surplus a tract of property at the intersection of Cherokee Avenue and Olive Street Southwest.
The Council meets at 7 p.m. the second and fourth Monday at City Hall.
