PREP BASEBALL: Cullman's Guthrie picks up 3rd win in as many games

LAGRANGE, Ga. — Keegan Thompson who?

You won’t hear anyone on the Cullman baseball team go that far just yet, but they might have to eventually with the way No. 2 pitcher Jordan Guthrie is throwing so far this season.

The Snead State signee dazzled for the third time in as many contests on Friday, tossing a three-hit, four-strikeout complete-game shutout in the Bearcats’ 3-0 win over Eagles View (Fla.).

Guthrie now has three wins and 20 strikeouts on the season following the 4-1 Black and Gold’s first game of the LaGrange Invitational in Georgia. They were scheduled to play Grayson High (Ga.) at 4:30 p.m. on Friday and will conclude the tournament with a pair of games on Saturday.

Wesley Walker maintained his .400-plus batting average with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate. After hitting a double in the second inning, Walker was driven in on a single by Christian Martinez.

Lance Cleveland knocked in Thompson in the third, and Thompson was walked with the bases loaded the following inning to account for Cullman’s other two RBIs.

Thompson finished 2 for 2 with a triple, a run and two walks.
