The Cullman girls’ and boys’ varsity basketball teams are set to participate in this year’s second annual Bama Shootout this Saturday at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center.
Both teams will take on Briarwood High School with the girls’ game slated to begin at 11 a.m. followed by the boys’ game at 12:30 p.m.
Jonathan Hayes, coach of the Lady Bearcats, said it was a “no-brainer” to take part in this year’s tourney.
“We definitely wanted in when they contacted us,” he said. “It’s a great venue and a great opportunity to play against a different team. It will also give the girls a taste of playing in Birmingham, a place we hope to return to late in the season.”
On the boys’ side, coach Bobby Meyer agreed with Hayes.
“It’s basically an all day long exhibition,” Meyer said.
“However, we are looking forward to playing in it. It’s an opportunity to watch matchups that you normally wouldn’t get to see.”
The tournament consists of nine games — six girls and three boys — and will start at approximately 9:30 a.m.
Tickets are currently on sale through Cullman High at a discounted rate. The school will receive a percentage of money raised through those sales.
Tickets will also be available at the gate at $14 apiece.
