PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Broncos blast Brindlee Mountain, clinch regular season area title

HOLLY POND — Meg Gambrill scored 14 points, Kaitlyn Stephens had 12 and the Holly Pond girls basketball team clinched the regular season Class 3A, Area 12 title with a 61-36 home victory over Brindlee Mountain on Tuesday.

The No. 6 Broncos (17-4, 4-0 in area play) quickly jumped out to a sizable advantage for the second straight night, leading 23-7 after one quarter and 37-12 at halftime.

While five Holly Pond players pitched in at least seven points, coach Scott Adams couldn’t have been pleased more with the contributions he received from Stephens. The sophomore, recently called up from the junior varsity squad following senior Lexy Malone’s heartbreaking ACL injury, drained three 3-pointers to account for a majority of her point total.

Other Bronco contributors were Natasha Holcombe and Taylor Terry, nine points apiece; Taylor Rowell, seven; Rachel Finley, five; Lexi Lynn, three; and Kristen Sparks, two.

Holly Pond will travel to New Hope Friday for another area contest.
