PREP ROUNDUP: Holly Pond boys stay hot, win 64-61 thriller on the road against Fairview

The Holly Pond boys’ basketball team has performed one, simple task during their current seven-game winning streak.

The task? Find a way to win games.

That’s exactly what they did again on Tuesday night as the Broncos went on the road to Fairview and escaped with a 64-61 victory over the Aggies.

The win moves the Broncos record to 9-2 overall, including a 2-0 mark in Class 3A, Area 12 play.

“It was an exciting game between two long-time county rivals,” Holly Pond coach Mitch Morris said. “It was just an old-fashioned physical game.”

Fairview led after the first quarter by a score of 15-12, but the Broncos took a 34-29 lead going into the halftime.

It was a lead they wouldn’t relinquish again.

“When we got the lead, we were able to maintain it,” Morris said. “We were up by 10 or so in the fourth, but they were able to claw back and make it close. There’s no quit in their team.”

Fairview coach Greg Boatright said, despite the loss, he was proud of his team’s effort.

“That’s our second-straight tough loss,” he said. “But I’ve got faith in my boys. I’m proud of the fight they showed tonight.”

Fairview drops to 5-3 overall with the loss.

Three players led the scoring for Holly Pond as Gunter Morris, Colby Adams and Jacob Cahoon all had 14 points apiece.

Austin Smith added 12 for the Broncos.

Luke Bailey was valiant in defeat for the Aggies, scoring 19 points and collecting four rebounds.

Elijah Garrison put up 15 points for Fairview and Peter Kessler scored 14, while Blake Parker, who narrowly missed out on a double-double, contributed 13 points and nine boards.

Holly Pond’s next game comes on the road against Brindlee Mountain on Friday night, while Fairview hopes to right the ship against Hanceville tonight.
