State fines, suspends players after football brawl

MONTGOMERY — The Alabama High School Athletic Association is leveling fines and player suspensions following a fight during a prep football game.

Wilcox Central High School is being fined as much as $5,800 in fines and placed on probation for a year for a fight that broke out during its game against Linden. WAKA-TV reports that one player was suspended for the rest of the season and five others are out for as long as five games.

Linden had four players suspended for two games. It must also pay at least $1,400 dollars in fines and serve a one-year probation.

Sixteen Wilcox Central players were ejected after a fight broke out during the game against Linden.

The game had to be called in the third quarter.
